The pure unsullied landscapes of Tom Schwabel, one of the finest photographers from around the world!
Posted by Arnaud | Filed under Landscape, Nature, Night, Photographers, Travel, Urban
Outstanding Photographers aims at showcasing some of the finest photographers from around the world and indeed there are some great ones out there. We are now proud to introduce to you our 160th feature, Tom Schwabel (pdxsafariguy), another fine example and among the best in the field. Tom is one of those rare artists that possesses the uncanny ability to pull the viewer into the scene and make you feel as if you were the one snapping the shutter! His pure, unsullied landscapes are both surreal and yet tangible in their breathtaking beauty. Below is but a sample of Tom’s amazing work.

Artist’s Statement:
I’ve always been into photography to some extent, starting long ago in a high school darkroom. After a long break from photography, I moved to the Pacific Northwest and the photography bug bit hard. Surrounded by so much natural beauty, it was only natural to begin trying to bring some of that beauty home with me. Now I find myself traveling far and wide to incredible locations, challenging myself to capture them in the best possible manner. Through this combination of travel and photography, I have been fortunate to gain a deeper appreciation of the culturally and naturally diverse world we live in. I find myself inspired by landscapes and seascapes, city skylines and bridges, wildlife, and anything at night. Wherever possible I try to integrate water, light, texture, and motion into my images. I am constantly striving to refine my eye for composition as well as improve my understanding of light and how to control it to achieve the impact I desire. I owe a great debt of gratitude to the incredibly talented folks here on Flickr who have helped and inspired me on my photographic journey. Learning is a lifelong process and I believe, maybe as my own harshest critic, that there is always room for improvement. In that regard, I am on a never-ending quest for that elusive ultimate shot.

Today we have a feast for your eyes with a stunning collection from the portfolio of international landscape photographer Michael Breitung! This exciting artist is our 159th featured photographer, a professional software engineer by day, an acclaimed nature, land/seascape artist by night! Michael has thrilled audiences from all over the world with his jaw-dropping presentations; waterfalls, mountains, sweeping fields and breath taking coasts invite the viewer time and again to share his own visual inspiration! Michael’s photos have appeared in magazines, galleries and featured presentations among which, Microsoft’s Windows 7 Personalization theme Gallery. Take time now to browse and enjoy the magic of Michael Breitung!
Artist’s Statement:
Hello, my name is Michael Breitung and I live in Germany in a small town near Erlangen where I work as software engineer. I have been intensely involved with photography since 2008. I started Landscape photography 3 years ago when I bought my first DSLR. In my day job I am mostly sitting in front of the PC the whole day so being out in nature, hiking and practicing Landscape photography provides the perfect balance for me.
I love to get up early and hike through the dark to my photo locations. It’s just wonderful to see the world transform from this dark and gloomy place into this colorful wonderland during twilight and sunrise. Another good thing about an early start is that most of the time I have this vista for myself.
When time permits I also like to travel and explore distant places. It’s always a challenge trying to capture the essence of those landscapes because I usually just have a couple of days there and maybe won’t have the chance to come back so soon. But it’s a challenge I like. It helped me to improve my photography more than if I had just gone shooting the same place over and over again.
If there is one thing I’ve learned it’s that sometimes I have only one chance to capture the perfect moment. But if I am able to capture it, those pictures are the most valuable for me.
Because I enjoy hiking, most of my photos are landscapes or motifs from nature. When I am not outdoors to photograph, I also like to experiment in the Studio or take the time to edit my photos. This is often a lengthy process because I aspire always for the best possible result, above all for the images that I offer in the shop as a fine art print.
My personal aim: In my photographs I try to capture the magic of the moment in such a way that each viewer personally feels present in my landscapes, enjoying each scene the way I experienced it. The main focus then in editing is to reflect the atmosphere of the pictures as I perceived them on-site. This is quite a subjective process, but I hope that my photos come to life for each and everyone.
On a personal note, recently I have been writing regularly for the landscape photography magazine and KWERFELDEIN. I will post the links to the latest articles on my blog so keep your eyes open and tuned-in for all the latest!

Anne-Marie is an artist that draws the viewer into her images and captivates their senses with a finesse of colour and style!
Posted by Arnaud | Filed under Black and White, Conceptual, HDR, Landscape, Macro, Nature, Night, Photographers, Urban
Our 63rd featured artist can be described as a regular gal with a passion for photography! Anne-Marie known on flickr as bleuet / Anne-Marie, is an artist that draws the viewer into her images and captivates their senses with a finesse of color and style. A perfect source of inspiration, this is one artist definitely not to be missed.
“Hello, my name is Anne-Marie. I live between Bordeaux and the Arcachon Basin in South West of France.
I bought my first camera (Minolta XG-M) with my first salary and it’s still in order. I really became a serial shooter with my first digital camera 6 years ago.
Seascapes are my favorite subjects. I adore walking by the ocean or the Arcachon Basin at sunset or at the blue hour : it makes me feel optimistic. I also love shooting cityscapes at night because of the atmosphere ; animals (especially funny birds), children…
A dear friend of mine taught me how to take long exposures and I’m now playing with my ND filters like a kid with a toy.
I would like to try other subjects like misty landscapes, portraits in B&W and chiaroscuro, architecture… The most difficult for me is to take candid shots because it seems to me I’m steeling a bit of people’s life… but I want to learn that too.
Photo is a fantastic way to meet people you would never have heard of, and to discover other ways of living and thinking. I’m always amazed when I wander in this group’s fantastic images : they make me dream, learn and want to progress. Thank you all for that !

Posted by Arnaud | Filed under astrophotography, Night
Against a black canvas glimmer countless particles of light. Here and there swirls of color form delicate patterns, a celestial canvas of light! Introducing the amazing astrophotography of Masahiro Miyasaka from Suwa-city Nagano, Japan! Masahiro specializes in night photography or photography of the stars in the night sky and has also developed his own particular style! Browsing through his pics will certainly make you want to see more!
Artist’s statement:
“I am specialized in a stars and scenery(flower).
I photographed it once in the day.
However, I was not able to find originality.
I found originality to a stars and a flower
photography method
(1)First setting is bulb mode and ISO4000
(2) Next setting is F2.8(aperture ring scale ? F2.8)
(3) Next is focus setting on the star(focus ring scale??)
(4)Shutter ON
(5)30-50 sec exposure
(6)Change it for F22(aperture ring scale ? F22)
(7)Change focus into a Leaf(focus?ring?scale?macro)
(8)light the Leaf with LED.
(9)Shutter OFF
I use the soft filter??LEE soft? No3
The question of many people.
It is a F2.8 ? F22 change at an aperture ring.
The operation vibrates.
I took off the spring of the aperture ring and some parts.
The aperture ring is smooth.
Another means.

Photographer Alonso Diaz, a magician with lighting and color where creativity and art both come together!
Posted by Arnaud | Filed under Conceptual, Landscape, Night, Portrait, Urban
Presenting from Sevilla, Spain, our 11th featured photographer, one of the most highly acclaimed photographers on the net! Alonso Diaz (aka alonsodr) has been called… “a modern day master of reflection and light, photographer par excellence… a magician with lighting and colors”!
—————————————————————————————————————-
“The greatest satisfaction is most importantly not to get something shocking, but to get the result you intend”
Photography basically consists of two points of view, a merely informative one, in which terms like composition become less important, and a deeper, more profound and artistic one. Personally, it is the latter that interests me, an approach in which creativity and art have a place together, but without ever losing sight of the discipline, that is, without editing or changes in reality through processing. Not that the post-process deserves less respect, but I think it is more related to design than photography.
Today I have the good fortune of being an ambassador of Sony UK, have been sponsored for Cokin photographer and have traveled many times to Europe to give lectures on Sony products and my shooting style. Working with a Sony A-900 and Carl-Zeiss optics I am very attracted by the creativity that filters allow, trying to get the desired image in a single shot. My greatest expertise is in landscape photography and I especially enjoy playing with exposure, looking for images that are beyond our ability to grasp. I am now also trying to do something different with external models and lighting kits.
Here are some of my favorite shots:

Following the moonlight reflections (30 sec)

The Lord of the Foam (Selfportrait)

Where clouds come from (282 sec)

About me:
I did start photography 3 years ago when I moved from France to California (San Francisco) for my job. I’m not a pro photographer but I try to do my best to reach a level as good enough to do some exhibitions of my photographs.
Over the past tree years I’ve been spending a great time in California, photographing incredibly beautiful landscapes in these locations and around. I have now a real passion for landscape photography and as soon as I have time to hunt the light it’s a pleasure to find a spot, go there, compose and wait for the magic light…
