The Hall of Fame proudly presents photographic legend Gaëtan Bourque (aka Imapix)!
Posted by Arnaud | Filed under Landscape, Nature, Portrait, Still life, Urban
The Hall of Fame cannot fail to include in it’s gallery of outstanding photographers, one of the greats in photography, honorary member and photographic legend, Gaëtan Bourque (aka Imapix). In the words of his son Xavier:
“Unfortunately, my dad passed away last October after a short and sudden illness. I plan to keep his Flickr stream alive by uploading archive photos “. ~ Xavier
In memoriam. Picture taken by Xavier.
“My dad Gaëtan (aka Imapix on Flickr) was always interested in photography ever since he was young. However, the advent of digital photography and the internet really turbocharged his interest into a passion.
He really started to become serious when he found an audience for his work on Flickr. He began with really modest point-and-shoots and upgraded over the years towards mid-level Canon SLRs.
I guess I could sum his technique in four points:
1- The glass makes the picture. He never had the latest-and-greatest camera body, but always had the best lenses he could afford.
2- Get there early. That’s when the light is good. Getting up at 6 a.m. was his version of sleeping in.
3- Shoot a lot. Storage is cheap. Just pick the good ones when you’re home. A typical day for him could result in hundreds and even thousands of exposures.
4- Don’t sweat the details, just fix it in post. He was an avid Photoshop junkie and would not shy away from pretty intense treatments.
Until the very last day of his life, Gaëtan shared his wonderful photographs with the world on Flickr. Thanks to everyone for the 7.3 million views over the years… I know he was very proud of that. The man might be gone, but his beautiful images will stay with us forever. Goodbye Pa. – Xavier: Imapix!”
– Xavier Bourque
For those who may not have known this extraordinary and dedicated photographer, here is just a taste of some of his amazing pics! A tribute to Gaëtan!

Breathtaking ocean landscapes and visually stunning compositions, meet photographer Louise Denton!
Posted by Arnaud | Filed under Conceptual, Landscape, Photomanipulation, Still life
Some photographers seem to freeze, slow, or speed up time while others intrigue and twist our imagination to new and imaginative concepts. Our 148th featured artist Louise Denton uses various photography techniques to take her imagery into entirely new dimensions! In fact a brief look through Louise’s photostream and you will be treated to a variety of styles, color, breathtaking ocean landscapes and visually stunning compositions! Enough said! For a taste of Louise’s artistry here is a visual guide to 18 of her most awesome captures!
About me -
I’m Lou, originally from the UK but lucky enough to now be living in the tropical region of Darwin, northern Australia.
The environment I live in is awesome, which has led me to become interested mainly in landscape photography. Darwin has everything from beautiful beaches, the best sunsets, amazing waterfalls, gorges and national parks everywhere. I still haven’t explored everywhere I want to and it will be a long time before I become exhausted with this location!
I began my interest in photography in October 2010, using my first DSLR; a Canon 450D. My passion (bordering on obsession, now!!) was furthered when I bought my first wide angle lens; a Sigma 10-20mm. All of my landscapes use this lens. I do like to create inspirational images, and shoot still life with my 50mm prime lens.
My other passion is travel, and I am lucky enough to have been able to travel through Europe several times, through SE Asia a couple of times and all around Australia. Unfortunately, I wasn’t as interested in photography then so I think I need to go and travel it all again!
My next trip planned is to Kakadu National Park, which is within my home state. It is the second largest national park in the world. I also would love to revisit Uluru and the “red centre”. I just don’t have enough time!
Anyway, that’s just a bit about me – I’m pretty crazy, a bit hyper sometimes….. but I love to hear from people, so if you have something to say check out my Flickr account and get in touch! All of my images are available as prints on request.

Artistry and feeling with smudges of light, texture and shade, photographer Svetlana Peric: “I am trying to convey emotion. To tell stories untold.”
Posted by Arnaud | Filed under Conceptual, Landscape, Macro, Nature, Photographers, Portrait, Still life
Introducing our 144th featured photographer, Svetlana Peric (ceca67) from Baden, Switzerland! Svetlana is an artist with a sensitive feel for the moment which shines forth in her every shot. With a wide variety of captures ranging from landscape and travel to portraiture, conceptual and macro, it’s the creative artistry in her that makes her photos visibly stand out from the rest! Artistry and feeling with smudges of light, texture and shade… Svetlana’s images are a visual provocation to intrigue and inspire!
“My name is Svetlana ,
I was born in Bosnia (EX Yugoslavia) and
I lived there till my 18 when I moved to Belgrade – Serbia , to study, and stayed there a
big part of my life, actually, till five years ago when I got
married and moved to Switzerland.
While I had an interest in photography from an early age, I didn’t
begin “for real” shooting till I came in Switzerland, and I never really thought about photography as an art,
till my Swiss days.
Initially, it started out just as a way to bring the wonder of these
beautiful places home for friends and family to see, but eventually I
wanted more from my images.
I wanted to tell million stories of my experiences …..to reflect my engagement with my surrounding….
I wanted to speak for my innerself….
to show conceptual side…
and
to compose the visual music…to bring others feeling of
peace,happiness and harmony …
I wanted to show my photos as a calm, meditative, intriguing, alive…
I am trying to convey emotion. To tell stories untold.
For me, in photography, the most important thing is “The Light”.
I am always trying to find it, catch it and make it eternal on my pics.
Freedom,time,memories,moments,stories,adventure,desire,love,passion,harmony,sense,life,fantasy,touch,pain, simplicity,longing, seduction,choices,happiness,light,darkness,temptation,seeker
of truth,questions…..
………. Emotions……………. my art.
Enjoy…”

Inspirational photographer Martyn Starkey: dreaming of the right places at the right time of day!
Posted by Arnaud | Filed under Landscape, Nature, Still life, Urban
Our 12th featured photographer in the Hall of Fame is the wonderfully creative and truly inspirational genius Martyn Starkey!
As Martyn says:
“Hi everyone! I was born in Nottingham England, and I am 49 years old. I have only recently started taking pictures in an artistic way having been introduced to the SLR by a work friend about 4 years ago. Along came Flickr and I had found my latest passion. Photography is very much a hobby for me, time during the day being taken up by my day job in IT and after hours with my wife and small dog Jorja. We love travelling so I mainly get to take pictures on holidays and occasionally I snatch time during lunch at work.
I love taking pictures of all kinds but my preference is landscapes as you will gather from my photostream. Typically I use a Canon 400d which I have had since 2007 and like most people I have used a variety of lenses but these days I tend to use the kit lens which might surprise a few.
I spend a fair amount of time in Photoshop getting the right ‘feel’ for a picture but I dream of one day being able to have the right kit and go to the right places at the right time of day to get the shot straight out of the camera – keep dreaming!!
Here are some of my favorite pics! Hope you like them!”

Photographer Jaap Verhoeven: “I want to have fun making photos and I hope it shows in my work”!
Posted by Arnaud | Filed under Abstract, Conceptual, Landscape, Macro, Nature, Portrait, Still life
Lots of wonderful things happen around us all the time; being able to see it is easy, but being able to capture it is what photography is all about. Our 112th featured artist is Jaap Verhoeven, a remarkable photographer from The Netherlands with an incredible ability to capture the beauty that he sees around him! Jaap has a wide variety of styles in his stream, just about everything to please the eye….Jaap’s secret to success? “I want to have fun making photos and I hope it shows in my work”!
Sanneke Fisser took this photo. She’s a professional photographer from Leiden in The Netherlands (www.sannekefisser.nl).
Let me start saying that I’m very proud to be featured photographer in this group! I have looked at the work of the other featured artists and I am very impressed by the artistic and technical quality of their work.
Choosing 18 photos was the hardest part. 18 is a lot! I came up with these. Please don’t ask me why. I don’t know. I just think they are beautiful I guess…
Like most people I’ve made photos for the largest part of my life. Snapshots.
Obviously, the way we all relate to photography has changed when photography went digital. The ease of use, the instant feedback from the display on your camera or from your computer display and the huge capacity on your memorycard allowing limitless shooting has changed everything. Not to mention the possibilities to show, share and edit your pictures. All this has been very stimulating for me to pick up photography more seriously. But hey, I’m an amateur and I do this just for fun.
I use Nikon equipment. I have a Nikon D300 DSLR and I use Nikon lenses. When I’m traveling light I bring my Canon S95 point and shoot. I’m an autodidact. So it’s all trial and error.
I am inspired by a lot of things. Nature, colour, shapes, a ray of light. When I’m walking around in a city or a museum I always find something that probably will end up in a nice image. I really like macro photography. So I like to capture little details, drops, insects, flowers. But there is also a more practical explanation for this. I have a fulltime job, so there isn’t as much time for photography as I would like to. I can make a macro shot in my kitchen or in my backyard. I don’t have to travel doing this. I just pick up my camera and give it a try.
So…what can I tell? Photography is my passion. I do not necessarily strive for technical perfection. I just try to create interesting images: images that are pleasurable to look at. Doing so, Photoshop is not a dirty word… But most important of all, I want to have fun making photos and I hope it shows in my work.
Please take a look…and let me know what you think. Thanks for your time!
